In Celebration

I look at you now,
see the rhythm of your
inevitable
unfolding:
your energy fills me with wonder.
Time is compressed
in the eye of a camera:
why, there you were,
pink, chubby-faced, round;
self-assured in babyhood;
and here again.

The essence remains
long, stretched out
at the climax of your growing years,
the birth of your adulthood

Your evolution pre-determined,
sure,
strong-willed.
I’m filled
with the confidence
of your continuing
to become.
